MRG Effitas launches Tempus, a real-time endpoint efficacy testing solution

The cybersecurity landscape evolves constantly and rapidly. It’s a real-time threat. So why isn’t digital security efficacy testing a real-time solution?

Now it is, with Tempus.

Tempus offers antimalware vendors continuous, real-time, independent efficacy testing against fresh In-the-Wild malware and gives instant alerts when samples are missed.

Detailed feedback on missed samples includes logs, screenshots, and hashes so that the vendor can review the sample and update the product for future protection, supporting continuous product improvement.

“Currently endpoint protection testing is typically undertaken quarterly,” said MRG Effitas CEO, Chris Pickard, “Our existing 360° Efficacy Assessment and Certification is considered one of the most rigorous tests on the market, but what use is knowing that a virus sample was missed 2 months ago?

“Ransomware and the cybersecurity threat landscape evolve rapidly and require a real-time, 24-7 testing solution. Tempus is a move towards Testing as a Service and will help antimalware vendors quickly and significantly improve their product.”

Built to run AMTSO-compliant tests, the Tempus client dashboard gives threat teams 24/7 access to test results, with instant alerts delivered by email, Slack and Discord. Future iterations of Tempus will highlight the detection status of high-profile malware and allow for self-service testing using a client’s own malware samples.

Joe Hartmann, Senior Director of Threat Labs for Malwarebytes, one of the antimalware vendors that beta tested Tempus said, “MRG’s 360° assessment has always been an integral component of our product improvement strategy, but with real-time notification of missed samples, we can respond, update the product and improve the protection for our clients much more rapidly. It is a massive leap forward in the fight against malware, ransomware and cyber threats.”

John Hawes, COO at AMTSO said, “Independent testing of endpoint protection software is a key element in the fight against cyberattacks and online crime. The increasing popularity of AI will only increase the onslaught of malware and cybercrime, so real-time testing, feedback and product improvement will help vendors and consumers enormously.”
